Les Sisters was born from the meeting of two complementary talents: Christophe Cazenove as writer and William Maury as artist. Together, they created one of France's best-selling youth comic series, with each volume selling 180,000 copies. The story is directly inspired by William Maury's real life with his two daughters.

Biography

William Maury is a self-taught French comic book artist, born on 12 June 1969 in Millau, Aveyron. He began his career illustrating humorous culinary features for regional magazines before publishing his first album, Alban de Montcausson, at Aveyron BD publishers.

In 2007, he signed with Bamboo Édition for the Les Sisters series, co-written with Christophe Cazenove. The work is directly inspired by William's life with his two real daughters — Wendy (16 at the time) and Marine (11) — whose first names and personalities he borrowed for the comic characters.

The success was immediate and spectacular: each album sold over 180,000 copies, placing Les Sisters among the most-read youth comic series in France. In 2017-2018, the series was adapted as an animated series on M6, then on Gulli, Netflix and Disney Channel. Through his round, expressive and dynamic style, William Maury brought to life a universal and endearing family world.

Biography

Christophe Cazenove was born on 16 July 1969 in Martigues, Bouches-du-Rhône. With a literary baccalaureate, he sent projects to publishers for years without success. Before breaking through in comics, he worked for about twelve years in the frozen food section of a supermarket — a delightful anecdote for one of France's most prolific comic writers.

In the early 2000s, based in Istres, he met Olivier Sulpice, director of Bamboo publishers. From 2002 he co-wrote the series Les Gendarmes, then Les Pompiers from 2003 with artist Stédo — two hugely popular series.

In 2008, he co-created Les Sisters with William Maury. The series draws directly from the cartoonist's daughters' daily lives, and Cazenove knows how to give family situations an irresistible comic rhythm. From 2016, he also took over the legendary Boule et Bill series for Dargaud publishers. His catalogue totals several million albums sold.

A complementary duo

The strength of The Sisters lies in the rapport between the two authors. Cazenove brings narrative structure and gags, while William provides authenticity through his own daughters as models. Each album faithfully reflects family life — everyday disputes, sisterly bickering, unexpected moments of togetherness — made universal by the pen and art of the two creators.

Together, they have signed the 20 main series volumes and several special editions, for a total of several million albums sold in France and internationally.
